Ian Mackenzie
Business Owner / Sales Broker
Ian is the business owner of Catamaran Company with 34 years experience in the Marine Industry. His passion for all things boating and the ocean is evident, having built two boats, completed 40,000 sea miles and still sailing regularly. Ian’s vast knowledge of sailing and catamarans is well respected in the industry, offering buyers specialised advice and having them return to Catamaran Company to sell the boat they purchased years prior.
Ian has created a boutique brokerage that has stood the test of time as a result of his enthusiasm for boats, stating… “This is my hobby that I am still enjoying 34 years on, as it doesn’t feel like work”.
Sam Martel
Sales Broker
Sam has been sailing since he was 7 years old and still loves spending time on the water. Having owned and sold a number of his own boats and gone sailing on many more, Sam enjoys anything from racing on Skiffs to sailing across the Tasman on a Volvo 60 or just a weekend out windsurfing.
Currently a qualified Offshore Yacht-Master and Commercial Skipper, Sam has a background as a sailing and windsurfing instructor in addition to running adventure therapy through sailing expeditions.
When he’s not on the water, you can find him hiking, camping, or fishing.
Rachel Timperon
Administration
Rachel coordinates the administration of Catamaran Company, utilising her extensive experience across a broad range of industries.
Dedicated and versatile, she assists Ian Mackenzie and the brokers with operational logistics, project management, sales and marketing and a wealth of in-house clerical duties.
Rachel welcomes our clients with a friendly smile and a vice like handshake (she is a fitness nut), and is responsible for streamlining administrative processes, ensuring efficiency and client satisfaction in both the buyer and seller realms. She is a valued member of the team and looks forward to growing with the company in her diverse role.
Sebastian Beckert
Sales Broker
Sebastian has spent most of his life on or around the water. From early days sailing and tinkering with boats to building and detailing them professionally, he’s turned a lifelong passion into a career.
With experience across yacht construction, design, and maintenance, Sebastian has worked on everything from custom sailing catamarans to sport fishing boats. He’s also been involved in yacht deliveries, marine rescue operations, and hands-on restoration projects — experiences that have deepened his understanding of how boats are built, handled, and cared for.
Now working as a yacht broker, Sebastian draws on that experience to help clients find their perfect vessel. With a genuine love for boats and a practical understanding of what makes a great one, he’s committed to matching people with their dream boat and ensuring the process is smooth from start to finish.
